However, just paying for the flight tickets is not going to be enough for your trip. You will be needing your passport to travel to foreign countries. To get your passport, you will have to apply for it. The police verification will take place at its own pace and finally, after several days, you will get your passport. This might force you to delay your plan.
There is one solution for this situation. If you have your Aadhar Card, you will get your Passport within a period of 10 days. In order to expedite the system of passport issuing, MEA (Ministry of External Affairs) has taken a decision to rely on the Aadhar Card for the applicant’s identification. The NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau) will be validating antecedents of criminal activities, if any. The police verification system is also simplified and you can apply for the passport online. All you need to do is attach the Aadhar Card as your address proof and identity proof. The appointment will be given to you within a period of three days and within the next seven days, the passport processing will be done and dispatched.
There are certain steps that you must follow if you wish to get your passport within a period of 10 days. These steps are mentioned below:
Step 1: Get yourself registered at PSP (Passport Seva Portal). You will have to navigate to the government website for passport to register yourself on the Passport Seva Portal. In case you are a new user, you will have to click on the button that says ‘register now’. After that, you will have to fill up all the details including birth date, Passport Seva Kendra, email ID, etc. On the registered email, you will receive your login ID. After that, you will get redirected to the home page.
Step 2: You can get your account activated when you click on the link that you get on the registered email ID. Use the name and password to login and apply on the link that says ‘Apply for Fresh Passport’. If you wish to re-issue your passport, then click on the link that says ‘Re-issue of Passport’. After this step, you will find two options. Click on the second option if you wish to fill up the application online.
Step 3: Choose the option that you wish to go for when the links appear. If you are applying for the first time then ensure that you click on the link that says ‘Apply for Fresh Passport’. You will have to fill in some forms after this step. Make sure that there is no mistake from your side while providing the important information that you add on the forms. In case the process for your passport fails, it will take a very long time for you to be able to reapply.
Step 4: Once you are done with filling all the required information and details, you must save it. This page can be accessed by you anytime by using your login credentials (username and password). Navigate to the next page and enter all the details of your family. Save this too and move to the next page where you will have to enter your address. Save this too and add your contact details for emergency situations.
Step 5: Click on the link that says ‘Pay and Schedule Appointment’ on the View Saved / Submitted Applications webpage. After you are done with submitting the form, you will have to make the payment online using your credit card, internet banking or debit card.
Step 6: After the completion of the process mentioned in the previous step, click on the link that says ‘Application Receipt’ in order to avail the print out. This printout will contain your appointment number and your application reference number.
Step 7: When you are going to the Passport Seva Kendra, make sure that you carry all the original documents with you. Within the next seven days, you will receive the passport at your registered address.

If you do not have one, apply for it right away. The Aadhar Card too is an important document and even if it is not mandatory for you to get it, it is always advisable that you avail it.
